The purpose of processing personal data is to:

We process the following types of personal data about customers or other data subjects in our Customer Register:
We receive data primarily from you through the three-year warranty sign-up form, the postal service form, the mailing list, surveys and other competitions.
By creating a user account, you can also sign up for Makita’s mailing list. This enables us to send you information about our websites, products, campaigns, newsletters and business partners. If you do not want to receive the communications or mail described above, you are free to cancel your mail subscription at any time.
In addition, personal data may also be collected and updated for the purposes described in this privacy policy, based on information obtained from public sources, authorities and other third parties within the limits of the applicable legislation. These types of data are updated manually or automatically. For instance, if a product purchased from us breaks within the normal warranty period and the product is taken to an authorised warranty maintenance point for repair, we will receive information regarding the repairs from the warranty maintenance point.

If you sign your product up for Makita Oy’s three-year warranty extension scheme, we will collect, store and process your personal data for the purposes of a possible warranty process as well as to send you relevant product information and Service offers.
Within the three-year warranty extension scheme, retailers of Makita have the right to access Makita’s warranty registration system to view essential information about the customer, provided that the customer has been linked to the retailer concerned in connection with the product registration. Retailers may use such data exclusively for purposes related to Makita’s three-year warranty extension.
You can view your personal data by logging in to your user account at www.makita.fi. In your user account, you can view your registered products and modify your contact details and mailing list preferences. You are required to keep your login details confidential and to refrain from disclosing them to unauthorised third parties. We are not responsible for any unauthorised password use.
If you use our parcel shipping service to send your product for servicing by Makita, we will collect, store and process your personal data for the purpose of the shipping process as well as to send you relevant product information and Service offers.
Within the parcel shipping service scheme, Makita Oy’s shipping service providers have the right to view essential information about the customer. Shipping service providers may use such data exclusively for purposes related to the provision of this service.
When processing personal data, we use the services of subcontractors on our behalf. We have outsourced our IT management to an external service provider, and the personal data are stored on a server managed and protected by the service provider.
We transfer personal data outside of the EU/EEA. When personal data are processed outside the EU or EEA, we ensure that the subcontractor is committed to the model clauses of the European Commission regarding the processing of personal data. Alternatively, we will ensure that the European Commission has recognised the adequacy of the level of data protection in the country.
Access to our system containing personal data is only allowed for those of our employees whose job description gives them the right to handle customer data. Each user has their own user ID and password for the system. The information is collected in databases that are protected by firewalls, passwords and other technical measures. The databases and their back-ups are stored in locked facilities, and they can only be accessed by certain named persons.
We regularly assess the need to store the data while taking the applicable law into account. In addition, we carry out reasonable procedures to ensure that no incompatible, outdated or inaccurate personal data regarding data subjects is stored in the register, in relation to the purposes of the processing. We will promptly rectify or dispose of such data.

In case you have access to your own data, you may edit them by yourself. To the extent that the processing is based on consent, you also have the right to withdraw your consent or change it at any time. Withdrawing consent does not affect the legality of processing that was carried out before withdrawing the consent. By registering for the three-year warranty or using the parcel shipping service, the customer consents to Makita sharing relevant personal data with authorised distributors and service providers.
You have the right to object to or request a limitation on the processing of your data and lodge a complaint with the data protection authority regarding the processing of personal data.
To the extent that you as a data subject have provided the customer register with information that is processed through the data subject’s consent or assignment, you have the right to access such data mainly in machine-readable format and the right to transfer the data to another data controller.
For specific personal reasons, you also have the right to object to processing operations relating to yourself, when the processing of your data is based on our legitimate interest. While making your request, you need to mention the specific reason for objecting to the processing. We can refuse to act on such a request only on the basis of statutory criteria.
All contacts and requests concerning this privacy policy must be submitted in writing or in person to the contact person named in section two (2).
In case we make changes to this privacy policy, we will mark the changes and their dates in the Privacy Policy. In case the changes are significant, they may also be informed in other ways, such as by e-mail or by posting a notification on our website. We recommend visiting our website regularly and paying attention to any changes in our privacy policy.
